Hi,
can anyone tell me if there are any accessible phones that work with prepaid plans like Boost Mobile, Cricket, or Virgin Mobile?
I would like a phone that can be used for text and web surfing along with talking but really only have to have a phone that I can add and retrieve contacts from as well as talk on.
Can anyone recommend any models that would work?
I'm trying to save money and get a cheaper bill than I currently can get with Verizon.
Also, can anyone tell me how to "unlock" a phone so it can be used on other networks? I have a Haven that I got from Verizon that is accessible now and am wondering if I can use it on one of the cheaper, prepaid carriers' plans if it is unlocked?

Boost has an android powered phone that is a slider keyboard, I was bee long to eye's free shell and Moble accessibility's mailing list and they were talking about this phone on those lists. I think its called the "transform ultra but not sure about its name. I just know that balkback, spiel and moble Acessibility work with it quite well.
@starfly, you are correct. if you can get with boost mobile, the phone is the samsung transform ultra.

I assume Spiel, balkback, and moble Acessibility are types of cell phone screen reader software. Do you have to purchase them separately or are they included in the price of the phone?
Has anyone ever used any of them, and if so, do you have a favorite?
has anyone used the cell phone mentioned above from Boost? Did you like it?
Can anyone suggest mailing lists or other places I can look for additional info on this topic?

mobile accessibility is $100 but talkback and Spiel are both free and can be download from the android market. as far as mailing lists to subscribe to go to http://www.codefactory.es and subscribe to the mobile accessibility mailing list, do a google search for the eyes-ffree mailing list, and in both places pose your questions again, you will be surprised of the responses you will get. as far as whether you can use your old phone, if you can get verizon to unlock it, ask them, any compatible carrier should work with it.
Odd thing is, I use moble accessibility because it seems to read more then the 2 free screen readers, however, talkback does the best in the android market. Moble accessibility does not seems to bee quite as responsive in the android market place on my phone. Also I seem to like moble accessibility's vertual keyboard a lot more then talkbacks or the one from Darle Molic called "touch type". At last, I really recommend you check out both those suggestions cowboy1 gave you so you can make a informed choice.
Hey, just found out that with verizon you can use the LG revere or the samsung gusto on the prepaid thingie.
Hmm... I have to ask why get a phone that will bee yesterday's news in about 6 months. however, it would bee wise to go with either a android powered phone or a Iphone.
You can use the haven on prepayed my brother is. he said he was disabled and that he needed an accessibile phone.
